99 Days

This presidential election is the most important election of our generation. If Trump is elected for another four years in office, the democracy that we know will cease to exist. We have 99 days to change the course of our history.

Every voting age person that believes in democracy and the principles of the Constitution, must do their duty to preserve the rights that many have fought and died for. We can do this, by voting. Let not our Civil Rights icons- Dr.Martin Luther King Jr., Congressman John Lewis, Reverend C.T Vivian, Medgar Evers, Rosa Parks, Shirley Chilsom, Doris Crenshaw, Ida B. Wells, Dorothy Height, and the many others- work and sacrifice be in vain.

We are living in unprecedented times. A time where civil unrest is at an all-time high, a time where uncertainty and fear reigns supreme and a time where you will either be on the right side of history or the wrong side of history. Now is the time to affirm the beliefs that you will fight to uphold. Now is the time to engage in necessary trouble… good trouble. As the late great Congressman John Lewis once said, “The right to vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have in a democracy. I risked my life defending that right.”

We have an obligation to continue on the path that was laid before us by our past trailblazers. History has shown us that the revolution starts with the people. No matter how poor, no matter how uneducated, no matter what color you are, when people get sick and tired of being sick and tired, they will either rise up and fight for change or perish under the weight of oppression. The only way we can rise out of this pit of turmoil and despair is to vote. We all know that our society is not a utopia; it has its obvious flaws and when the law that we expect to uphold our civil rights and civil liberties do not follow through, then it becomes our duty to decide whether to act upon the injustices and inequalities or suffer in silence. The vote is a voice and we will be heard.

We have 99 days.

Everybody 18 and over must vote. We are fighting for the essence of our democracy.
